Helplines in Romania
If anyone is in immediate danger, call 112 for an ambulance, the police or the fire service. If you are having thoughts of suicide, the 116 123 prevention line is open 24 hours a day. For anxiety, depression or stress, the depreHUB helpline on 0374 456 420 is free, confidential and also open around the clock.
The services listed here work in Romanian, and none of them says it offers English. If Romanian is difficult for you, ask a friend who speaks it to stay with you while you call. In an emergency, call 112 regardless; operators are used to foreign callers and will usually find a way to help.
If you are experiencing domestic violence, the national ANES helpline on 0800 500 333 is free and open 24/7. Shelter addresses are kept confidential, so the helpline is the safe way in and can arrange a place. Children and teenagers can call Telefonul Copilului on 116 111, free from Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 20:00, and depreHUB Teens (0374 461 461) supports young people at any hour. To report abuse or neglect of a child, call 119. Mothers can call the M.A.M.A helpline on 0374 451 362, 12 hours a day. There are also free lines for people with substance dependence (0374 456 444) and for older people (0800 460 001). The TelVerde Antisuicid line (0800 801 200) runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, from 19:00 to 07:00.
