Helplines in Netherlands

In an emergency, call 112 for the police, an ambulance or the fire service. If you are thinking about suicide, or worried about someone, call 113 Zelfmoordpreventie on 113 or use its anonymous chat, free and 24 hours a day. If you just need someone to listen, De Luisterlijn answers on 088 0767 000 at any hour.

Most Dutch helplines answer in Dutch. 113 has an English information page, although its line itself works in Dutch. The Jellinek advice line on 088 505 1220 offers English for questions about addiction, on working days from 13:00 to 17:00. If Dutch is a barrier, call anyway in an emergency; emergency services usually find a way to help.

If you are experiencing domestic violence, or worried about a child, Veilig Thuis on 0800-2000 offers advice 24/7 by phone or chat, and you can stay anonymous. Shelter addresses are kept confidential for safety, and Veilig Thuis can help arrange a place. After sexual violence, recent or long ago, Centrum Seksueel Geweld is free and anonymous on 0800-0188. Note that this number does not work from abroad. Children and young people can talk to De Kindertelefoon on 0800-0432, daily from 11:00 to 21:00, or use its chat.

On a foreign SIM, dial the numbers as shown; 112 works on any phone across the EU. For non-urgent police matters, call 0900-8844. Each number was checked at its official source, and the date is shown beside it.
