Helplines in Finland

Call 112 if anyone is in immediate danger, for an ambulance, fire service or police. For a medical question that can't wait, the Medical Helpline on 116117 is open 24/7. If you are in crisis and need to talk, the MIELI Kriisipuhelin answers on 09 2525 0111 at any hour, in Finnish, for anonymous one-off conversations.

English support is limited but real. Nollalinja, the national violence helpline, lists English, and other languages, including Arabic, Somali, Ukrainian and Russian, are available through interpreters. Peluuri (0800 100 101), for gambling problems, helps in English where possible. Swedish speakers can call MIELI Kristelefonen on 09 2525 0112 at set times. Other lines work in Finnish, but emergency services usually find a way to help whatever your language.

Women and anyone who has experienced violence at home can call Nollalinja free on 116 016, 24/7, or use its chat. Shelter addresses are kept confidential, and the helpline can arrange a safe place. Naisten Linja (0800 02400) supports women and girls on weekday evenings, and Tukinainen (0800 97899) helps people who have experienced sexual violence. Children and young people under 25 can call 116 111, run by the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare. There is also a support line for eating disorders (02 251 9207) and an online chat on alcohol and drugs (Päihdelinkki).

On a foreign SIM, dial the numbers as shown; 112 works on any phone in the EU. Each number was checked at its official source, with the date shown.
