Helplines in Cyprus

In an emergency, call 112 or 199 from any phone. If you are struggling and need someone to listen, the Cyprus Samaritans answer free on 8000 7773 every day from 4pm to midnight, for adults who feel distressed, lonely or unable to cope.

The Samaritans list both English and Greek, which makes them the clearest English-language option here. The other services work mainly in Greek. If Greek isn't your language, you can still call: emergency services usually find a way to help, and it is fine to ask at the start whether someone can speak English with you.

Women and anyone facing domestic, partner or gender-based violence can call the SPAVO helpline on 1440, open 24/7 and staffed by psychologists and social workers. If speaking is not safe, SPAVO can also be reached by text on 99 984042. Shelter addresses are kept confidential for safety, and the helpline is the way to arrange a place. Children and teenagers up to 18 can call 116 111 free and anonymously, a line run jointly by SPAVO and Hope For Children. Hope For Children also has its own helpline for children and families on 1466.

If you are visiting on a foreign SIM, dial these numbers as shown. 112 works on any mobile phone across the EU, including in Cyprus. Every number below was checked at its official source, and the date is shown beside each one.
