Ten-Item Personality Inventory (TIPI): a two-minute Big Five test
The TIPI gives a quick sketch of the Big Five personality traits: extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability and openness to experience. Each trait is measured by just two pairs of words, so it takes about two minutes.
It was designed for situations where a longer test isn't practical, and it is less precise than full-length measures. Treat the results as a sketch rather than a portrait. No trait is better than another, and nothing here is a diagnosis.

Here are a number of personality traits that may or may not apply to you. Please write a number next to each statement to indicate the extent to which you agree or disagree with that statement. You should rate the extent to which the pair of traits applies to you, even if one characteristic applies more strongly than the other. I see myself as:

The comparisons above use the TIPI norms published by Gosling, Rentfrow and Potter for women aged 21 to 30, a large online sample. If you are a man or older, your averages would be a little different: for example, agreeableness, conscientiousness and emotional stability tend to rise with age. 'Around average' means within one standard deviation of that group.
With only two items per trait, the TIPI is a rough sketch. A single mood can shift it. If you want a fuller picture, the longer Big Five questionnaires on this site measure each trait in more detail.
Personality traits are not problems to fix. Still, how you are made can shape what feels hard: a quieter person may find a move abroad lonelier, and a very agreeable person may struggle to say no to family. Person-centred counselling doesn't try to change your personality. It offers a space to understand yourself on your own terms. I am a trainee counsellor working under supervision. 10 questions, scored as the average of your answers; 5 are reverse-scored. These are the score ranges this page uses to describe your result. Where the questionnaire's authors publish official cut-offs, the ranges follow them; the sources are listed below.

Questions people ask
How accurate is the Ten-Item Personality Inventory?
The TIPI agrees reasonably well with longer Big Five measures and gives similar results when people retake it, but it is less precise because each trait rests on only two items. The authors suggest using it when time is short and a longer test isn't practical.
How is the TIPI scored?
Each trait is the average of two items, one of them reversed. On a 1 to 7 scale, reversing means a 7 becomes 1, a 6 becomes 2, and so on. So every trait score also runs from 1 to 7.
Why is my result compared with women in their twenties?
The published norms are split by sex and age group, and this site is visited mostly by women. The 21 to 30 group is one of the largest. Averages shift a little with age, so if you are older your score may sit closer to your peers than it appears here.
Are my answers private?
Yes. Everything is calculated in your browser. Nothing is stored or sent, and refreshing the page clears your answers. There is no account, no email and no tracking of your answers. If you want to keep your result, a screenshot is the simplest way.
