Helplines in Nepal

If someone is in immediate danger, call the police on 100. For emotional and psychological support, TPO Nepal runs a toll-free psychosocial support and counselling helpline on 1660 010 2005. It is free of charge from the Nepal Telecom network, so if you are on another network or a foreign SIM, the call may not be free.

The official pages for these services don't say which languages they work in, so expect them to work mainly in Nepali. If you don't speak Nepali, it can help to have a Nepali-speaking friend, colleague or hotel staff member beside you when you call. In an emergency, call 100 anyway; say clearly where you are and what has happened, and the police will usually find a way to help.

If you are a woman facing violence or discrimination, the National Women Commission hotline on 1145 is toll-free and open 24 hours a day. Shelter addresses are kept confidential for safety, so the hotline is the way to reach help and can arrange a place. If a child is at risk, call Child Helpline 1098, the national line overseen by the National Child Rights Council. You can call it yourself as a child or young person, or as an adult who is worried about a child.

Dial these short numbers exactly as shown, from a mobile or landline inside Nepal. Opening hours are not published for every line, so if one does not answer, try again later or call 100 if anyone is in danger. Each number was checked at its official source, with the date of that check shown beside it.
